AIA inspires academic excellence in Batticaloa

AIA Sri Lanka donated a new building to Kokkadicholai Ramakrishnam Maha Vidyalayam in Batticaloa as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) endeavour to inspire academic excellence among the children in the North and East where for decades the students had to go to school amidst war.  

The company handed over a newly built building of five classrooms to the school recently. AIA also donated five computers for the school’s computer lab. The school was also presented with 758 AIA-branded school bags - one for each of the students attending the school. This was funded by AIA employees volunteering to donate a day’s salary as their contribution.  

This is the third time that the company has donated a school building to the North and East. Three years ago AIA Sri Lanka donated classrooms to Vasavilan Navothya School in Jaffna and last year, to Mullivaikkal West Government Tamil Medium School in Mullaitivu. 

AIA Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Shah Rouf, Deputy CEO Upul Wijesinghe and Director Human Resources Chathuri Munaweera, who spearheaded the donation, were present to handover the building to the principal and the students.  

“In our endeavour to play a leadership role in social and economic development of the country, we contribute to nationally significant initiatives that have always made a difference to the lives of the people,” said Rouf. 

“Focusing on education is an important CSR stance for AIA and our efforts have made a big impact on helping the nation’s education and have helped to raise the bar. All members of AIA proved it by funding such events with this in mind. This is a matter of great pride and satisfaction to everyone at AIA,” he said.
