Strathspey Estate celebrates World Children’s and Elder’s Day

Strathspey Estate, situated at Upcot, managed by Maskeliya Plantations PLC, which is owned by Richard Pieris Group of companies, celebrated World Children’s Day as well as the Elders day for the Fifth consecutive year.


The Special celebration of this year in commemorating the world Children’s day fell on the first of October 2017. This celebration was organized by the management of Strathspey Estate in collaboration with the Hatton region Plantation Human Development Trust under the patronage of Hill Country, New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development Minster Palani Thigambaram.
The children were taken down to Nuwara Eliya through the Fairtrade Labeling Organization (FLO) bus, accompanied by the parents, health/welfare staff of the plantation and the following activities have been conducted in collaboration with the Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) of the Hatton Region, and the Chief Guest for this function was Hill Country, New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development Minister Palani Thigambaram.


The pre-school children and those children who have sat for the year-five scholarship examination were allowed to play at the Gregory Lake park and they had a boat ride, horse ride, many other programmes and events. The children were provided with lunch and refreshments, and the elders were given mid day meals (Balanced Diet).
