Rescued from the depths of despair

A she elephant and a calf that fell into an abandoned well at the dead of night on Sunday (24) were saved by the Wildlife Conservation Officers in Thirappane. The Wildlife Officials rushed to the scene on information from the public paved the way for the she- elephant and the calf to come out by flattening the edge of the well. Pix by Athula Bandara
