Protest against suppression

A protest was held at the Lipton Circus today demanding the government to put an end to the oppression against trade unions. The protestors also urged the government to take immediate action against those who were responsible for the killing at the Free Trade Zone. The protestors accused the government of continuous suppression for the trade union movement in the Free Trade Zone and alleged that there were policemen manning the boarding houses of the workers round the clock. The protest was organised by the Joint alliance of Trade Unionists. (Pix by Pradeep Pathirana)
