Police checkout ancient swords

A fresh investigation has been initiated to find out whether three ancient swords found at Kelaniya were those stolen from the National Museum, Police Headquarters said today.

A spokesman said CID detectives are checking out the words ‘Nugawela Adhikaram’ that have been engraved on the blades.

The three swords were recovered from a dustbin by an employee of the Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha. He had first mistaken them to be pieces of metal and was about to hand them over to a blacksmith to turn out sickles but had later noticed the engravings. (Supun Dias)
