The plantations industry held a silent protest today condemning the murder of an Estate Superintendent in Deraniyagala, urging the government to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.

The Ceylon Planters Society said that had the authorities taken action when the deceased was assaulted two months ago, the situation would not have gone this far.

“We condemn this murder unreservedly and we want all the culprits brought to book immediately,” it said.

A 65-year-old Estate Superintendent in Nooriyawaththa at Deraniyagala was hacked to death on Friday.

The funeral was held at the Mount Lavinia cemetery today. Pix by Reka Tharanagani
