The world was not too tall for two short persons - both just about three feet in height - who met through a mutual friend and entered wedlock recently. The short couple entered the happy union of marriage at a hotel in Moratuwa with the blessings of their parents. The groom Don Dharmasiri Devalal (35) is from Diyagama, Galpatha in the Kalutara District and his bride Dilini Iroshini Senaratne (26) is from Soysapura in Moratuwa.

Dharmasiri is the fifth child in a family of seven of P.D.Samarasena and L.D.Kusumawathie of Diyagama. He is a watch and cellular phone repairer by profession. Dilini is the only daughter in a family of two of Lionel Senaratne and Renuka Ranjani Fernando of Moratuwa.

The meeting of the parties was arranged by one of Dharmasiri’s family friends. Dharmasiri whose other siblings had all married earlier, strongly believed that he would meet his life aprtner before long. He had been jubilant when the proposal was brought to him by the friend to which he readily agreed.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the two parties met and made arrangements for the wedding. Thilini’s father who is employed abroad had decided to hold the wedding reception in a grand way.

“The astrologer who read the horoscope had forecast that my daughter will find her husband soon. I am hopeful that they will lead a successful married life,” he said

The new couple will settle at Dharmasiri’s two storied house at Elamodara, in Galapata on the Horana – Kalutara main road.  (Pix by Sunil Thanthiarachchi)
