Gale hits many areas

A gale that hit several areas including Haputale, Diyathalawa and Bandarawela caused extensive damage to 40 line houses in Rohaminton Estate in Haputale and 16 line houses in Nayabedda estate in Bandarawela. More than 200 displaced persons are staying with their relatives.  The police requested the drivers to be cautious about possible obstructions to roads caused by fallen trees or mounds of earth. A tropical storm slammed into Welimada area, bringing heavy rain and a storm surge flooding low-lying areas and displacing more than 50 people and damaging 42 houses. Pix by Rathnam Kogulan-Walimada






A Colombo bound Badulla passenger bus skidded off the road in Haputale area due to heavy mist. Forty five passengers were on the bus when the incident occurred. The driver managed to prevent any accident.  Pix by Rathnam Kogulan-Walimada
