Foreign Prof. & Doctor ordained as Bhikkunis

Two ladies, one from Italy and the other from Germany, renounced the worldly pleasures and entered the order at the Olabotuwa Khema Arya Meditation Centre in Horana yesterday morning.

Italian lady Juliana (32) had been a professor at the Dharma Drum University in Thaiwan and the German lady Hedwig (42), a doctor before they came to Sri Lanka to enter the order.



Prof. Juliana entered the order as Ven. Ithaliye Dhammadinna and Dr. Hedwig as Ven. Germaniye Vajira under the tutelage of Chief Incumbent of the Olabotuwa Kehema Arya Meditation Centre Ven. Dr. Kolonnawe Kusuma Bikkuni and Ven. Engalanthaye Wimalo Bikkuni.

The two ladies who entered the order said they decided to enter the order to practise mindfulness and right effort through the teachings of the Buddha. They said they had been practising meditation since long and that they were able to spend 4 to 5 hours in one posture. The two Bhikkunis said their objective was to enter the path of Nirvana through meditation that leads to right understanding.

The ordaining ceremony was organised under the guidance of the founder of the Sandaham Asapua, Parliamentarian Aturaliye Rathana Thera. Devotees from several areas were present at the ceremony. (Buddhika Kumarasiri)
