Fire in Nadukarakanda Reserve

1 October 2013 12:09 pm

Fire swept over about 40 acres in the Nadukarakanda Forest Reserve in Badulla yesterday afternoon. Police said the fire was spreading due to the prevailing drought and that valuable trees and rare species of plants have been affected already.

The Badulla municipal fire brigade and the police were attempting to put the fire out. Police said unscrupulous individuals set fire to the forest reserves during drought periods every year to track down wild animals. Pix by Palitha Ariyawansa
