Colourful kites

The annual kite festival organised to mark the Thai Pongal celebrations was held at the Valvettithurai Uthayasuriyan Beach in Jaffna on Friday. The festival was inaugurated by Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran. More than 20 kite runners participated at the event. Last year more than 60 kite runners took part in the festival.  Pix by Romesh Madhushanka
