Wireless solutions utilized by individuals and business entities to make their lives and tasks more efficient and simpler, had become the next big thing in the mobility communication sector, said the visiting Cisco Product Sales Specialist for India and Saarc, Arun Negi.
Negi expressed these views at the Cisco Wireless Forum organized by the worldwide IT giant CISCO and Fentons Limited, a leading integrated solutions provider in ICT infrastructure sector in the country, held in Colombo recently.
He went on to elaborate how wireless communication had become more important than the basic human needs such as food, shelter, loving and care.
“Earlier, following Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, we focused on basic human needs such as food and water at the very bottom of the hierarchy. However, today the basic need of humans had become a wifi facility and the high durability of equipments which can be used in utilizing wifi,” he said.
Explaining on Cisco Map application, an application designed to multitask and save time, he said through the app, a number of tasks could be carried out using only the tip of the thumb. Indoor navigation, making an appointment in a company or hospital and also the booking of conference halls could be done using only the app without making a single call.
“If we make an appointment to consult a doctor, the app would also indicate what is the number we got and how much time left to wait for the doctor. This way, we will be able to visit the doctor at the right time without wasting time in queues. Employee whereabouts in the office (which floor, which room etc) could be figured out successfully through the app,” he said.
Negi said when a person is connected to wireless devices, it would track the person through the nearest three access points of the person following a vector analysis to identify the person’s location.  Wireless smart system, also with its ability to warn people if they are moving away from a desired destination, would become efficient in retail, hotel, hospital and educational sectors apart from business entities, Negi said.
