Wasana Trading launches 100 electric vehicle charging points islandwide

Wasana Trading Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd, a leading hybrid and electric car dealer in the country, has set up 100 high rapid charging points around the country for electric cars. 

The company said electric motor vehicle owners in the country use these charging points to charge their cars at very competitive prices. 

These charge stations have been set up in accessible locations which include six points along the Southern Expressway.

Wasana Trading Director Indika Sampath Merenchige said people tend to use their electric cars as spare vehicles and diesel and petrol cars as the primary mode of transportation due to the lack of accessible charging points. 

“As the first step to changing this consumption pattern and promoting the use of the electric cars as the primary car for every consumer, Wasana Trading has set up charging points throughout the island. 

We are planning to establish more charging points around the country in the future, so consumers now need have no fear about purchasing electric motor vehicles,” Merenchige said.  A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Wasana Trading Company and Vega Technologies to set up rapid charging points throughout the country in the near future.  Merenchige and Vega Technologies Director Beshan Kulapala were the signatories to the agreement. 

“Owners who recharge their electric vehicles at charge points set up by Wasana Trading Company have the added advantage of a charge card for use at any of these points at any time of the day at a discounted price,” stated Kulapala. 

Wasana Trading is also in the process of developing an app for use on smartphones that will enable owners of electric motor vehicles locate the charge point closest to them.
