Trade Promoters Limited (TPL) recently hosted a seminar for its customers titled “Power your way to a healthier lifestyle”, focused on the engine of the human body – the heart.

The guest speaker at the event held at the Cinnamon Grand on 28th August was Dr. Hemal Fernando, Consultant Cardiologist.

Heart disease is often associated with the build up of bad cholesterol. Dr. Hemal Fernando explained that two thirds of the bad cholesterol produced in the human body is attributed to one’s diet and lifestyle, while the remainder is linked to one’s genetic buildup, or family history.

He stressed on the importance of eating healthy food with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, and controlling the intake of salt and sugar. He emphasized on the need for regular exercise, and sited regular tests as a means of keeping a tab on one’s arteries. “Heart disease is a silent killer. Cholesterol build up starts in your 20’s, and symptoms for heart disease can show up much later in life. Regular testing is important once you reach your 20’s. The heart is your body’s engine, you need to take good care of it”.

Rohan M Fernando, Chairman of TPL, added, “As a key player in the power generation industry with over 175 staff and a significant number of important customers, we feel a sense of duty to create awareness on this important topic.Judging by the number of interesting questions the audience asked the good doctor, I believe

we achieved what we set out to do”. TPL is intent on enhancing the standard of health, wellness and physical fitness of all its stakeholders.
In 2014, TPL organized its first medical camp at its office premises, where all its employees had the opportunity to consult a doctor and receive free testing for blood sugar, cholesterol, and eyesight. In 2013, the company held

a seminar for its staff on diabetes awareness and primary prevention through lifestyle modification.
