N. G. (Tanky) Wickremeratne has been appointed the new Chairman of NDB Bank PLC with effect from April 20, taking over from outgoing Chairman Sunil Wijesinha.

Wickremeratne served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Hayleys Group from 2007 to 2009, a corporation in which he had spent 38 years, since the begining of his professional career.

He had chaired the Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber Products, served as a Committee Member of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and had been its representative on the National Labour Advisory Council. He also served as the President of the Sri Lanka-France Business Council.

However, he is no stranger to banking, having acted as a Director in Hatton National Bank PLC from 2009 to 2012.

Wickremaratne has a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Ceylon, Peradeniya.

His predecessor who resigned recently said he was resigning as the Finance Minister expressed his intention to reconstitute the board.

The government through Employees’ Provident Fund, Sri Lanka Insurance, Employee Trust Fund, Bank of Ceylon and National Savings Bank has over 33 percent stake in NDB.
