Sri Lanka’s March trade deficit narrows 13.5% YoY to US $ 520.5mn

REUTERS: Sri Lanka’s trade deficit narrowed 13.5 percent to US $ 520.5 million in March from US $ 602 million a year earlier, Central Bank data showed yesterday. March exports edged down 0.9 percent from a year earlier to US $ 1.06 billion, while imports fell 5.5 percent to US $ 1.58 billion.
The trade deficit in the first quarter narrowed 0.1 percent to US $ 1.93 billion, while the island nation’s balance of payments recorded a deficit of US $ 1.02 billion in the quarter, compared to a US $ 828.3 million surplus in the same period last year.
