Sri Lanka March tea exports dip

Total quantity of tea exported for the month of March 2015 including re-exports with imported tea amounted to 25.18 mn/kg, showing a considerable decline of 5.77 mn/kg (-18.65 percent) compared to the same period last year. 
With the decrease in FOB price per kg from Rs.655.49 to Rs.598.64, total export earnings too showed a noteworthy decrease of Rs.5.22 billion (-25.71 percent) as against the corresponding period last year.
Country wise analysis of exports shows that the Turkey continues as the largest export destination from Sri Lanka followed by Russia and Iraq. The UAE shows the highest percentage increase in quantity year-on-year (YoY) (3.08 percent) whilst Chile and China show a substantial increase YoY. 
It is interesting to note that exports to India have increased substantially YoY volume wise (1.37 mn/kg cumulative 2015 and 0.161 cumulative 2014).
