Seylan Bank felicitates sportsmen at Sports Club AGM

The Seylan Sports Club held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) recently at the Seylan Bank, head office under the patronage of Director/CEO Kapila Ariyaratne.

The highlight of the event was the felicitation of sports personnel who represented the bank and the country at international, national, mercantile and master’s levels during 2014/15. Over 70 personnel were rewarded with mementos and cash prizes.

Nuwan Kulasekara – cricket, Chamil Cooray – world carom champion, Renu Chandrika de Silva – former badminton national champion, Chalitha Ranjana – table tennis national player, Thargini Sivalingam – netball national player, Jayaliya Kumari and Benica Thalagala – national basketball players were notable figures among the sportsman who were felicitated.

Among the highlights of team sports achievements were Mercantile Netball Knock Out 2014 – champions and league runner-up, Mercantile League Table Tennis 2014 Men’s and Women’s League champions, Mercantile Hockey League champions and Knock Out and Seven-A-Side runner-up, Mercantile Women’s Basketball B Division League and Knock Out champions. 

Further, at Mercantile, Sri Lanka Masters and First India Mercantile Athletics Championships a total of three gold medals, seven silver medals and four bronze medals were won by the Seylan bank athletes.

The badminton team emerged runner-up in the Mercantile Inter Firm Championship in both the League and Knock Out.

Chamil Cooray secured another gold at the fourth World Carrom Championship and is also the national champion.  

The new committee was elected unanimously and the AGM concluded with an evening of fellowship.
