New IMF Executive Director visits Sri Lanka for first time

Dr. Subir Gorkan, Executive Director on the board of the International Monetary Fund representing India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka met Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake at the Finance Minister last evening (04).
This was the first overseas visit undertaken by Dr.Gorkan since being appointed as an IMF Executive Director in November last year.  Following the meeting with the Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, he said that he was observing the economic affairs of the countries in the region and pledged to drum up support through IMF to the new development thrust of Sri Lanka. 
Karunanayake opined that the concepts of good governance of the new government headed by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinge have resulted in Sri Lanka being recognized internationally. In this backdrop, he added that the IMF’s support would be of great importance to Sri Lanka. 
Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, Director of the Economic Research Department of the Central Bank Mahendra Siriwardana too were present on the occasion.
