NBQSA launches online scoring system for first time in Sri Lanka

The National Best Quality ICT Awards (NBQSA) competition will mark its 17th anniversary this year. It was introduced by the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT Sri Lanka Section (BCSSL) to showcase local talent and provide opportunities to take their products to the international market.

BCSSL conducted an awareness session for the judging panel on the Online Scoring System for NBQSA 2015 at the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) auditorium. The system was tested at the 2014 competition and will be used in real time for the first time in Sri Lanka at the upcoming judging starting from August 19.

Around 40 judges consisting of both industry and Academia took part in this event. NBQSA Chairman Vajeendra S. Kandegamage gave a comprehensive demonstration on using the system. He stressed that the judges are required to comment and provide their views of the products along with the sores where significant rates are given. Kandegamage further indicated that the feature to note down comments for the competitors provides added value for them to improve the product.

The organising committee took the initiative to implement this system in order to increase the transparency of the judging process. This will increase the confidentiality and ensure judging is carried out adhering to strict guidelines imposed while maintaining unbiased and objective evaluation. The newly introduced system facilitates in realizing the above expectations easily.

This year’s panel is comprised of leaders from the industry, academia and government professionals. The NBQSA organising committee received positive comments from the judging panel. They also indicated the given system increases the efficiency of the whole judging process. 

BCS, The Chartered institute for IT Sri Lanka Section Chairman Prof. Gihan Wickramanayake, Hon Secretary Ruwan Amarasekara and NBQSA 2015 Chief Judge Geethapriya Tillakaratne highlighted the important points on the judging. Co Chairmen Shanaka Rajapakse and Lakmal Embuldeniya were involved in organising and conducting the series of judges and participants sessions during the last two weeks.
