LB Finance PLC in association with the Science Society of the University of Colombo conducted a series of exclusively designed workshops for students from the Matale District who will be sitting for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination this year. The series of workshops held from September 28 to October 2, 2015 targeted over 800 students picked from 22 schools in the district and coincided with the World Children’s Day.

The GCE Ordinary Level examination is one of the most crucial milestones in a student’s education in Sri Lanka. Every year, hundreds of thousands of students sit for the exam in the hope of qualifying for their Advanced Level studies. It is a well-known fact that students from areas such as Matale are not blessed with the many facilities available for students in more urban areas of the country.  The LB Finance CSR team, having identified this fact, was quick to partner with the Science Society of the University of Colombo for this magnanimous initiative. The seminar series focussed on some of the main subjects that these students would face for the examination while past papers and mock exam questions were also discussed.

“Our children are the future. We, at LB Finance, firmly believe that every child in Sri Lanka has the equal right for education as well as the equal opportunity to pursue their higher education. This is just one of the many initiatives organised by our CSR team to light up the pathway for these students who are indeed our future,” said LB Finance PLC Managing Director Sumith Adhihetty.

Some of the schools that were part of this initiative included schools from the Central Province’s Wilgamuwa Educational Region such as Naminioya Central College, Maraka Maha Vidyalaya, Hadungamuwa Secondary School, Nugagolla Maha Vidyalaya, Sonuththara Kanista Vidyalaya, Minipura Vijaya Maha Vidyalaya, Pallegama Maha Vidyalaya, Ranamure Kanista Vidyalaya, Sri Agrabodhi Kanishta Vidyalaya, Hattotaamuna Maha Vidyalaya, Mahalakotuwa Maha Vidyalaya, Puwakpitiya Dammanthanna Kanista Vidiyalaya, Madakanda Kanishta Vidyalaya, Weheragalayaya Kanista Vidyalaya, Kekalathenna Maha Vidyalaya and Puwakpitiya Dammanthanna Kanista Vidiyalaya.
