Japanese businesses show renewed interest to invest in SL: envoy

Kenichi Suganuma, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Sri Lanka, said there is renewed interest shown by Japanese businesses to invest in Sri Lanka.
He said the formation of a national government and the new government’s call for investors to arrive in Sri Lanka has propelled the newfound interest by the Japanese investors.
Suganuma revealed these facts when he held a meeting with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) yesterday.
He also said, “There is a prospect of whole of South Asia growing and many Japanese companies are looking at this part of the world and Sri Lanka is looked at as a hub or a gateway.”
Responding to the Japanese ambassador, CCC CEO/Secretary General Mangala Yapa said that the CCC is also highly focused on promoting exports from Sri Lanka and also attracting foreign direct investments (FDIs) into the country. He said there are several highly potential sectors that any investor wanting to come to Sri Lanka can focus on.
The meeting was also attended by JETRO Colombo Resident Representative Kazuhikoa Obama, Japanese Embassy Sri Lanka First Secretary and Economic Cooperation Section Head Kiichiro Iwase and also CCC Senior Assistant Secretary General Lilakshini De Mel. The meeting took place the CCC.
