The Hirdaramani Group recently stepped forward as the venue sponsor of TedxColombo 2015: Reimagining Spaces, which was attended by 550 people, as well as an additional 500 people who watched the session online via live streaming.
The event was also attended by the Directors and Senior Management of the Hirdaramani Group from Sri Lanka and the group’s regional facilities.

The TEDx programme is a series of local, self-organized events; developed under the guidance of the TED platform; bringing people together to share a TED-like experience. TED is a non-profit organization devoted to ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’. Initially starting as a conference in California in 1984, TED has grown to share world-changing ideas and initiatives. There are many ideas that are yet to be explored in Sri Lanka and TEDxColombo acts as a platform for speakers to voice their thoughts and gain recognition on a global scale. The event helps to stir up debates and discussions among people in the country, and outside on pressing issues and important ideas that have the potential to impact lives and change the world. The interest in such programmes by audiences in Sri Lanka was evident by the fact that tickets were sold out within three weeks.

The values established by TEDx – the sharing of ideas as seeds of innovation, also resonate deeply with the Hirdaramani Group. The company has created a culture where people of all levels are encouraged to express themselves, share their ideas and be heard – this has always been and continues to be a valuable source of inspiration and innovation for the group.

Commenting on Hirdaramani’s support of the event, Rakhil Hirdaramani, Director, Hirdaramani Group stated, “We are happy to support the values of TED in Sri Lanka as programmes of this nature inspire change and drive innovation.

TEDx is about free thinking – a trait that all of us at the Hirdaramani Group advocate. With education being one of our main focus areas, partnering with TEDxColombo, was a natural choice for us, and we are delighted with the outcome of this event. It was a pleasure to see such hard work and dedication from the team pay-off in the insightful and thought provoking ideas that were shared by each and every speaker.”

TEDxColombo 2015, which marked the 5th edition of the programme in Colombo, featured impactful talks by eight prominent speakers with diverse backgrounds and experiences. This year’s theme ‘Reimagining Spaces’ encouraged people to stop and think about the space they each occupy, and think about it in a new way. The speakers at the conference brought this challenge to the forefront with their own take on the theme.

Also commenting on the event, Ajith de Silva, CEO of one of the Hirdaramani Group’s facilities in Bangladesh, stated, “TED has created a platform where amazing ideas and achievements can be shared with the rest of the world. We are proud to be a part of this initiative and wish the TEDxColombo team all the very best in their efforts to build on the incredible platform which they have created in Sri Lanka, which makes the world a better place through the free sharing of knowledge.”
