George Soros in town

International Investor, philanthropist and the founder/Chairman of Open Society Foundations George Soros landed in Sri Lanka on Saturday to attend the ‘Sri Lanka Economic Forum 2016,’ a forum organized in Colombo with the full backing of the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The event, themed “Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s 2023 agenda for economic prosperity,” aimed at steering Sri Lanka towards sustainable and inclusive development, is to be held on January 07th and 08th at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel.
To be presented at the event was an initial growth prognosis carried out by the Harvard University’s Centre for International Development on Sri Lankan, which has identified four key areas they believe are important to support sustained and inclusive long-term economic growth for Sri Lanka.
Nobel Laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz, who is the other key figure of the event, is expected to arrive in the island today.
Apart from Soros and Stiglitz, the other speakers who will speak at the forum are; Ricardo Hausman, Professor of the Practice of Economic Development, Harvard Kennedy School Director, Centre for International Development, Alan Hirsch, Director, Graduate School for Development Policy and Practice, University of Cape Town, Robert F. Conrad, Associate Professor, Sanford School of Public Policy, Duke University, Christopher Woodruff, Professor of Economics, University of Warwick, ErionVeliaj, Mayor, City of Tirana, Albania, Filipe Campanile, Associate Professor of Public Policy, Harvard Kennedy School, LjubicaNedelkoska, Growth Lab Research Fellow, Centre for International Development, Montek Singh Aluwalia, Visiting Professor, Stern School of 
Business, New York University and, Sean Turnell, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Macquarie University.
According to the event organizers and coordinators, the entire investment of the forum is borne by Open Society Foundations of George Soros.
