Former dy minister Hussein Bhaila heads Lanka Cement

Former parliamentarian and deputy minister Hussein Bhaila has been appointed chairman of Lanka Cement PLC with effect from December 30, 2015, the company said in a stock exchange filing.
Bhaila’s appointment comes following the resignation of K.G.Leelananda, who was appointed to the post in February.

Bhaila was a member of parliament from 2004 to 2010 and was the Deputy Minister of Advanced Technology & National Enterprise Development from 2004-2005, Deputy Minister of Plan Implementation from 2005-2007 and Deputy Minister of External Affairs from 2007 to 2010.
He served as the Chairman of Sri Lanka State Trading General Corporation from February 2015 to October 2015.
The government effectively controls over 90 percent of Lanka Cement through state-owned agencies and Treasury Secretary.
