Sri Lanka Exports Development Board (EDB) Chairman Bandula Egodage stepped down from the top post with effect from yesterday. Egodage, a well-known and respected private sector executive, was the 11th EDB Chairman.

Following his resignation, Egodage will continue full time as AVP – Corporate Affairs and Communications at Nestlé Lanka PLC. “Though I am stepping down from the EDB today, I shall continue to link with the exports sector,” Egodage said.

A press statement by Industry and Commerce Ministry said Egodage had been appointed as an EDB board member following his resignation.  “I am thankful to Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen for appointing me as the EDB Chairman in 2013,” said Egodage.

“I am also highly appreciative of our present International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickreme, under whom the EDB is now placed, since despite my stepping down from the EDB as Chairman, he still appointed me as a member of the EDB board. I am pleased of Minister Samarawickreme’s confidence in me,” he added.  Many credit Egodage for nurturing a private sector working environment at the EDB, a semi-government body.  Under Egodage’s leadership, the EDB was able to clinch the opportunity to hold the World Export Development Forum Sessions in Sri Lanka in 2016.
