Committee to review resettlement of families within Colombo

25 March 2015 06:50 am

The Cabinet will be appointing a committee to review aspects pertaining to the relocation of families in underserved settlements within the City of Colombo, undertaken by the Urban Development Authority (UDA).
The approval was granted following a request made by Urban Development, Water Supply and Drainage Minister
Rauff Hakeem.
Accordingly, grievances and requests of those who have been affected due to above relocation process can be forwarded to the committee  headed by the Additional Secretary (Urban Development) Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply on or before 10th April 2015.
Recently the construction of the TATA Housing Complex, which was to accommodate 582 such families, was suspended, along with other foreign projects, in order to review their procurement and administrative procedures.
While some state-driven housing projects have been completed and families have begun residing in them, over 100,000 families are still believed
to be living in inadequate housing within the Colombo City.
