The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) is to extend its online tax payment system by setting up 5 kiosks within the municipal council limits.
This will enable even tax-payers who do not possess internet facilities of their own, to make their tax remittances to the CMC online.
The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) had taken steps to introduce the online tax payment system to CMC in 2014.
That was the first time  an online tax payment system was introduced to any   local government authority in Sri Lanka.
Since the introduction of the system in 2014, the total amount of remittances received online up to now by  the CMC as tax payment has  exceeded  Rs.10 million.
Online tax payment received by CMC during the period, January – April 2015 exceeds Rs.4.2 million.
The facility could be availed of by using the websites  www.srilanka.lk or www.cmc.lk.
Tax payment to the CMC could also be made through the mobile phone.
There are nearly 600,000 permanent residents within the CMC limits and the total amount per year from rates payment alone exceeds Rs.3300 million.
According to the Global Information Technology Report 2015  issued by the World Economic Forum,  Sri Lanka is at  a praiseworthy level in the area of providing citizen services online.
