Sri Lanka’s premier trade chamber the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) yesterday in a statement extended congratulations to the United National Front for Good Governance, the coalition led by the United National Party, for their decisive victory at the general elections concluded for the 8th Parliament.

While congratulating, the CCC said the most critical responsibility of the new government is to work together with all the concerned stakeholders and develop prudent strategies and plans to overcome the critical challenges that the nation is faced with.

“As the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce had been reiterating in the past, the country is faced with many a challenges; such as ensuring harmony and national integration, strengthening democratic institutions  and rule of law and governance and adopting  inclusive development strategies.

“The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce would like to reassure its unstinted commitment and wholehearted support to work and engage productively with the newly elected government in transforming Sri Lanka to a prosperous nation,” the statement said.

The CCC extended its gratitude to the Election Commissioner, the Police Chief and the other officials of the respective institutions for creating this environment.

The trade chamber also extended its appreciation to the President and the Political Party Leaders, who extended their support towards a free and fair election.
“We believe that the elections were conducted in a free and fair manner, allowing the people to peacefully exercise their franchise”

“We sincerely hope that the winners as well as losers will accept the final outcome of this election, in a peaceful manner, without disturbing the normalcy and day-to-day life of the people, demonstrating our respect towards democratic ideals,” the statement said.
