The Singapore Business Times’ The SME Magazine portrays entrepreneur Dr. R. Theyvendran on the cover of its most recent SME Magazine under the title ‘Class Act’. Dr. Theyvendran is one of Singapore’s best known entrepreneurs and his success story started in Singapore with Stamford Press Singapore.
Dr. Theyvendran is Secretary-General, Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) and has invested his time, money and conscience in taking MDIS beyond boundaries.
The SME Magazine describes Dr. Theyvendran’s upward climb from Singapore to Tashkent, where he says, “Ubekistan was a sheer accident,” but allows that it is an investment that is paying off.
His second overseas campus is in Iskandar, Malaysia, expected to be completed this year. He considers India his biggest challenge and announced that his third overseas campus will be located in Chennai, India, in a joint venture with Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies.
MDIS is a total non-profit making organisation and, as Dr. Theyvendran says, it is passion that drives him and the board at MDIS, where every dollar earned is reinvested into the school’s infrastructure, curriculum development and expansion plans. He is currently engaged in the varying aspects of running MDIS and taking it to greater heights internationally.
Dr. Theyvendran is of Sri Lankan origin, where his parents hailed from Jaffna. He has extensive interests in the region including Stamford Lake Private Ltd, the well-known publishing company in Sri Lanka.
