Special attention focused on Sri Lanka at 49th ADB Annual Meeting

The 49th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank concluded in Frankfurt, Germany this week. Finance Minister, Ravi Karunanayake represented Sri Lanka at this meeting that was held from May 2-5. Finance Ministers representing 67 countries of the Asian Development Bank and more than 3000 expertise in the finance sector participated at this meeting. This time the theme of the meeting is “Cooperating for Sustainability”. Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake stated that Sri Lanka has achieved many specific advantages at this meeting.

Sri Lanka has obtained distinctive opportunity to participate for the first business session and the Finance Minister, Ravi Karunanayake also got the opportunity to participate at the special meeting of Finance Ministers in which he delivered the keynote address. Addressing the Finance Ministers of ADB countries the Minister stated that broader economic plan has been implemented in Sri Lanka as there is new enhanced political situation. He also stated that now Sri Lanka is getting international cooperation as more attention of the global community has been focused on us. Investment opportunities are existing in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan government is supposed to give the required assistance in this regard and Sri Lanka expects the assistance of the ADB as well as the Finance Ministers represent it in this endeavor to uplift countries economy, the Minister further said.
