National tea sales average in July reaches highest ever for a calendar month

The national tea sales average for the month of July 2022 reached an all-time high, recording 1,448.13. 
The sales average achieved in July is the highest ever recorded average for a calendar month, surpassing the previous best of Rs.1,333.61 achieved in April 2022. 


The data from the Sri Lanka Tea Board show that in comparison to the July 2021 average of Rs.591.35, the total average in July 2022 shows a significant increase of Rs.856.78 year-on-year (YoY), whilst gaining 1.06 in US dollar terms as well.


In US dollar terms, the July 2022 average of US $ 4.05 recorded an increase of US $ 0.56 when compared to the June 2022 average of 
US $ 3.49.

An analysis of the elevation averages by Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers shows that for the month of July 2022, the highest ever High Grown average recorded an increase of Rs.192.50 month-on-month (MoM), when compared with Rs.1,012.07 (US $ 2.83) of June 2022. 
When compared to the July 2021 average of Rs.555.26 (US $ 2.81), a significant increase of Rs.649.31 is recorded YoY, whilst in US dollar terms, the increase is of US $ 0.56. 


The highest ever Medium Grown average for a calendar month totalling Rs.1,152.29 for July 2022 recorded an increase of Rs.159.90 MoM vis-à-vis Rs.992.39 of June 2022. When compared to the July 2021 average of Rs.521.70, a significant increase of Rs.630.59 YoY is shown, whilst in US dollar terms, records an increase of US $ 0.59.


Low Growns too recorded the highest ever average of Rs.1,608.57 in July 2022, surpassing the previous best of Rs.1,506.71 recorded in May 2022. It records an increase of Rs.178.09 MoM and a significant Rs.982.35 YoY, respectively, with a gain of 1.33 in US dollar terms.


All elevations recorded significant gains during the period of January-July 2022 when compared to the corresponding period of 2021, both in LKR and USD terms.
