National Chamber-GRI to hold workshop on sustainability reporting

2 June 2016 12:00 am

National Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka in collaboration with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) South Asia will conduct a workshop on ‘sustainable reporting’ on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 9:00  a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the chamber auditorium, No: 450, D R Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10.

A sustainability report is an organisational report that gives information about economic, environmental, social and financial performance. GRI is an international independent standards organisation that helps businesses, governments and other organisations understand and communicate their impacts on climate change, human rights and corruption. It enables policymakers, businesses, think tank bodies, civil society and media to make sustainability reporting a standard practice and help accelerate sustainable economic development through sustainability reporting.

Many companies now produce an annual sustainability report and there is a wide array of ratings and standards, but really, they are intended to be ‘vessels of transparency and accountability’.

Sustainability reporting is a more recent concept that encourages businesses and institutions to report on their environmental performance. nGRI South Asia Senior Coordinator Rubina Sen will be the guest speaker. She has experience in various sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) forums overseas and also has been a guest speaker in the Institute of Companies Secretaries of India (ICSI), Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) and & SR Asia in Bangladesh. She holds a Master’s in Sociology from Delhi School of Economics.
The session will be inclusive of tea and lunch.
