May production dips 16% YoY

Sri Lanka’s tea production for the month of May 2022 totalled 26.04 M/Kgs, a dip of 16 percent Year-on-Year (YoY).
Statistics from the Tea Board show that May 2022 output is a decrease of 5.06 MnKg, when compared with the 31.10 MnKgs of May 2021.  All elevations have shown a decline over the corresponding month of 2021.
When compared with the 28.60 MnKgs of May 2020, May 2022 shows a decrease of 2.56 MnKgs, reports showed.

Meanwhile, January-May 2022 cumulative production totalled 112.56 MnKgs, recording a significant decrease of 23.08 MnKgs when compared with the 135.64 MnKgs recorded in the corresponding period in 2021. On a cumulative basis too, all elevations have shown a decline over the corresponding period of 2021. When compared to 103.10 MnKgs of Covid-19 impacted January-May 2020, cumulative production of 2022 shows an increase of 09.46 MnKgs. On a cumulative basis, all elevations have shown a gain over the corresponding period of 2020.
