May inflation rises to 4%

(Colombo) REUTERS: Sri Lankan consumer prices rose 4.0 percent in May from a year earlier, edging up from the previous month’s 3.8 percent, government data showed yesterday. 


Core annual inflation, which excludes fresh food, energy, transport, rice and coconuts, rose at 3.2 percent in May on an annual basis compared with the previous month’s 3.5 percent. 


The index has a revised base year of 2013 and market basket. 


On a month-on-month basis, the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) rose 1.2 percent in May, compared with a 0.1 percent rise in April, data from the Department of Census and Statistics showed. 

The inflation rate in May, as measured on a 12-month moving average basis, eased to 5.7 percent from 5.9 percent in April.
