Kavan appointed SLPA Chairman

Minister Sagala Ratnayaka congratulates newly appointed Chairman Kavan Ratnayaka

 

 

Top professional Kavan Ratnayaka yesterday assumed duties as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). 


Before his appointment as the SLPA Chairman, Kavan served as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). He is also a former Chairman of Associated Newspapers of Ceylon (Lake House). 


An old boy of Royal College, Kavan, who is the brother of Ports, Shipping and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayaka, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in (Physics) from the University of California. 


He has also served as the Country General Manager of IBM Sri Lanka, Chief Executive Officer of Dialog Broadband and the Chief Corporate Officer of Dialog Axiata PLC. 


Minister Sagala Ratnayaka expressed his confidence that Kavan Ratnayaka will steer SLPA to greater heights with his experience in both the public and private sectors.

He recollected SLPA’s huge contribution to the National Treasury during the period of late Port Development Minister Lalith Athulathmudali.


He also said late President J.R. Jayawardene created a revolutionary change in the port and maritime sector of Sri Lanka, and as a result more public-private partnerships emerged with collaborative competition in the country’s port sector. 


Gampaha District parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardena, SLPA Managing Director Capt. Athula Hewavitharana, Additional Managing Director Upali D. Zoysa, a number of high ranking officials of the management and staffs of SLPA and the President of Jathika Sewaka Sangamaya (JSS) of SLPA, Udeni Kaluthanthri, were present at the event.
