Japan grants Rs. 26 mn for education empowerment

The Government of Japan has decided to provide a total sum of US$180,322 (approximately Rs. 26 million) in grant aid for the improvement of the education environment in the Jaffna district under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP). 


The two projects are: “The Project for the construction of J/ Muthuthamby Maha Vidyalayam School Building in Jaffna District, implemented by J/
Muthuthamby Maha Vidyalayam with a sum of US$ 80,254 (approximately Rs.11.6 million) and “The Project for the Construction of J/St. Theresa’s Girls’ College, Atchuvely School Building in Jaffna District, implemented by :/St. Theresab Girls’College, Atchuvely with a sum of USD100,068 (approximately Rs.14.4 million).  These projects aim to construct suitable school buildings in realizing children’s right to receive education in a conducive environment. 


The two grant contracts were signed between Kenichi Suganuma, Ambassador of Japan and Ramalinga Kurkukal Pasupatheeswaran, the principal of J/Muthuthamby MV school and Sr. Maria Jeevanthi, the principal of J/St. Theresa Girls’ College respectively on 2nd March in Jaffna.
