John Keells Group Executive Vice President Zafir Hashim formally receives certificate of registrations from BOI Director General Champika Malalgoda
The Board of Investment (BOI) recently signed an agreement with the John Keells group subsidiary Logipark International (Pvt.) Ltd to construct, commission and operate a logistics centre to provide integrated logistic services, container freight station, multi-country consolidation and a range of local and international logistics solutions.The facility will be located within the Muthurajawela Logistics Zone in Kerawalapitiya, Wattala. The total value of this investment is US $ 13.96 million.
“John Keells Logistics is a key player in the 3PL landscape of Sri Lanka. And this latest venture will further enrich our service portfolio by establishing a world-class infrastructure platform capable of providing superior warehousing and fulfilment solutions to both local and foreign supply chains,” Logipark International and John Keells Logistics CEO Senath Jayatilake said.
“This is a considerably large operation with a cargo storage capacity of 40,000 cubic meters. The facility is also capable of handling over 300,000 cubic meters of cargo per month in a single shift operating model.
There will be multiple users and industries occupying this facility and it will offer a one-stop shop service proposition for fulfilment and warehousing requirements,” he added.
Fast-moving consumer goods such as food, household items, electronics, garments as well as industrial products such as paints and lubricants would be handled at Logipark International.
This would also include both import and export cargo from many existing and future BOI enterprises.“We can offer services to the BOI enterprises as our facility is at the foot of the country’s highway master plan and therefore, can reach all parts of the island in addition to the international airports very efficiently. An excellent connection to the highway means that many consumer goods can reach the market within very short lead times. We can expect this to also fuel more efficient trucking operations.”
Commenting on the cutting-edge technology of the facility, he added, “Our operations will be completely paperless and digital and we expect to introduce many first-time technologies at this facility,” Jayatilake said.
