Diversified conglomerate Hemas Holdings PLC is likely to bag the local agency for Taiwan-based Evergreen Line, one of the biggest ship operators in the world, sources close to the deal told Mirror Business. Evergreen vessels have the highest number of calls to the Colombo Port and, as the largest contributor to the port’s revenue, it is estimated to generate business worth over Rs.3.5 billion annually.

A source told Mirror Business that Hemas had been able to secure the tender for the agency from Evergreen and is awaiting the required approval by way of a licence from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). When contacted, a Hemas Holdings spokesperson declined to comment. Greenlanka Shipping Ltd, a leading logistics company in the country incorporated in 1986, currently operates as the sole agent for Evergreen in Sri Lanka.
