The government has decided to issue licence to allow foreign carriers to operate commercial flights between internal airports.

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to issue a one-year licence to foreign carriers, through the Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority, to operate commercial flights among the Colombo, Ratmalana, Mattala, Jaffna and Batticaloa international airports.

Under the current bilateral agreements, foreign carriers are not allowed to operate commercial flights to internal airports.

The Cabinet Office said the move is aimed at reviving the domestic aviation sector.
