The Exporters Association of Sri Lanka (EASL) yesterday welcomed the efforts of the government to secure the vote from the EU parliament to regain GSP Plus tariff concessions for Sri Lanka exports entering the European Union.
EASL said once the concession is fully in place, Sri Lankan exporters can look forward to being in a position to be more competitive, thus reviving markets and capturing new export opportunities.
“Exporters of apparel, fish and seafood, ceramics, spices, fruits and vegetables and floriculture in particular, will be able to increase their exports to the EU and enhance forex earnings,” EASL said.
The European Parliament recently voted in favour of Sri Lanka’s readmission to GSP Plus.
However, the final decision by the European Parliament on granting GSP Plus to Sri Lanka is expected to be taken on May 15.
