The Delegation of the European Union (EU) in a statement yesterday welcomed the peaceful and democratic resolution of the political crisis in accordance with Sri Lanka’s constitution.
In a brief statement, the Delegation of the EU commended the resilience of Sri Lanka’s democratic institutions and said they would continue to support the island nation’s efforts towards national reconciliation and prosperity for all.
The statement had been issued in agreement with the EU ambassadors and Norwegian ambassador resident in Colombo.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed US Ambassador in Colombo Alaina Teplitz in a Twitter message welcomed this weekend’s political developments, “which upheld Sri Lanka’s democratic and constitutional norms”.
She said Sri Lanka is a valued partner in the Indo-Pacific and is looking forward to continuing to develop their relationship with the Government of Sri Lanka and its people.
The Australian High Commission also in a brief statement welcomed the resolution to the political uncertainty by constitutional means.
The high commission also applauded the resilience demonstrated by the country’s democratic institutions.
“We look forward to working with the Sri Lankan government to take forward its commitment to deliver peace, reconciliation and prosperity and to build a stronger bilateral relationship,” the statement said.
