A workshop was held recently, aimed at identifying and resolving the issues faced by the local small and medium business owners as well as empowering them as an important collective in the nation.
The workshop was attended by more than 100 such entrepreneurs in the Ratnapura district.
Young Men’s Buddhist Association (YMBA) President Sumedha Amarasinghe and Sunil S. Sirisena (former Education Ministry and Trade and Commerce Ministry Secretary, former National Savings Bank Chairman and former Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Director General) began the proceedings by stating the goals of the workshop.
Key business leaders in Sri Lanka, including DSI Managing Director D.K. Rajapaksa, Lanka Tiles Managing Director Mahendra Jayasekera, Lassana Flora Chairman Specialist Doctor Lasantha Malavige and Employee Trust Fund Director and Human Resource Advisor Padmasiri Ranawakarachchi helped make the workshop even more of a success with several lectures on improving business effectiveness and human resource management.
A key highlight of what followed was a lecture delivered by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission on how the dissemination of information technology can aid entrepreneurship in the economy. Judging by the comments and ideas expressed by the entrepreneurs during and after the workshop, the event was held to be a resounding success.
Moreover, the officials of the Colombo YMBA listened and acceded to the requests made by the participants to organise and hold more workshops similar to this. The YMBA has planned out a series of such workshops in other parts of the country, spanning all districts and aimed at small and medium business owners.
