The Cabinet of Ministers this week cleared the path to award the remaining tenders to the selected bidders of the 150 MW solar power project of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

On Monday, Power Minister Dullas Alahapperuma sought the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to award the tenders to the selected bidders for the grid sub stations of Anuradhapura, Habarana, Matara, Galle, Deniyaya, Kosgama, Mathugama, Pannala, Mahawa and Kurunegala, for a period
of 20 years.

The CEB floated Requests for Proposals (RfPs) in mid-last year, seeking foreign and local companies to develop and maintain 150 MW of solar projects at multiple locations, under the Sooraya Bala Sangramaya Phase III.
The project is to be set up on a build-own-operate basis for a 20-year period, with a tariff cap of Rs.15.60 per kWh.
