Navin in Japan to resolve tea issues

Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake is currently in Japan to find solutions to the problems faced in exporting Sri Lankan tea to Japan due to its residue levels. Japan has introduced a set of revised regulations impacting Ceylon Tea as well, since authorities have requested that residue levels of certain types of weedicides need to be at very low levels. Sri Lanka last week removed the ban on the use of weedicide glyphosate, and as a result the local tea industry stakeholders remain positive of alleviating concerns raised by Japan in the future.
