New company applies for licence to operate domestic and int’l flights

Colombo-based Fly Lankan Asia (Pvt.) Ltd has requested permission from authorities to operate domestic and international flights carrying passengers as well as cargo and mail services.

The company, which brands itself as Fly Lankan, has submitted an application to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on 3rd of this month, to obtain the necessary licence and certificate to engage in both domestic and international aviation operations.

“Fly Lankan Asia (Pvt.) Ltd … seeking an air operator certificate and airline licence to engage in domestic regular operations carrying passengers and mail and international regular operations carrying passengers, cargo and mail in compliance with the Civil Aviation Act and regulations made thereunder,”  the CAA  said in a public notice.

The company has nominated Air Vice Marshal P.D.J. Kumarasiri to be Accountable Manager in charge of the proposed operations. 

Sivarasa Sivanathan, who was linked to now defunct Aero Lanka, is a Director of Fly Lankan Asia (Pvt.) Ltd, according to the notice published by the CAA. Sivanathan is also President of Florida-based Airsmith.

In addition, a former Director of Airport and Aviation Services of Sri Lanka (AASL), D.J.G.S. Edirisinghe, is also on the director board of the company.

The other two Directors of the company are N.J. Weerakoon and K.M.D.S.N. Ranaweera.
