While denying allegations that he was behind the attack on the house of Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Vice Chairman this morning, Minister Mervyn Silva today said he will not allow to transform Kelaniya into another Libya, his media secretary said.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online media Secretary Rehan Wijeratne said there was a conspiracy against Minister Silva by few people, who want to create an internal crisis within the SLFP. “I am not ready to become Kelaniya as another Libya, no one can stop me from developing Kelaniya,” Mr. Wijeratne quoted the Minister as saying.

Mr. Wijeratne said a few days ago a member of the Pradeshiya Sabha told the media that Kelaniya would become another Libya soon.

He also said the Minister held discussions with government officials this morning about the ongoing projects in the area and instructed them to carry out work that was held up from today itself. When some officials had gone to check about some unauthorized structure near the Vice Chairman’s house, a group had suddenly started to attack them.

“This clearly shows who wants to make Kelaniya another Libya,” Mr. Wijeratne charged.

Meanwhile, a complaint has been lodged with the Kelaniya police claiming that the house of Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Vice Chairman Chamilaka Duminda had come under attack by a group, this morning.

Due to the attack the house has been damaged. The younger brother of the Mr. Duminda was injured due to the attack and has been reportedly hospitalized.
