While claiming that the 2014 budget was an attempt to please the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Rosy Senanayake said today the women in Sri Lanka were the most affected from the budget.

“Women constitute the majority in Sri Lankans. But the budget has neglected them, especially female employees who work overseas and in the state sector,” Ms.Senanayake said.

She said the government should have paid more attention to these women and should take ample measures to improve the well-being of their families.

“There is no one to look into their families when a woman leaves the country to work abroad. Their children have also been completely ignored by the 2014 budget,” Ms. Senanayake said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
