Woman critically injured by bike in VVIP security detail

A woman was seriously injured when a motorcycle in a VVIP vehicle convoy knocked her down in Mount Lavinia yesterday afternoon, reports said.

According to initial investigations, the victim was on a pedestrian crossing with her child just in front the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court when she was knocked down by the motor cycle. The child was unhurt.

The rider of the motor cycle was taken into police custody and produced before the Mt.Lavinia Chief Magistrate Nirosha Fernando, who remanded the suspect till today.

The victim was admitted to Kalubowila Hospital in the ambulance that was in the security convoy and later transferred to the Colombo General Hospital, sources said.

Meanwhile, attorney-at-law Ruwan Perera who appeared, with Chatura Sugathapala, for the suspect motor cyclist Corporal Samarasinghe told Daily Mirror that the suspect, who is a member of the Presidential Security Division, was remanded until today. (M.S.Perera)
