Wife arrested over the death of Lankan doctor

Australian Police have charged a woman - reportedly the victim's wife - over the death of a Sri Lankan doctor in Geraldton, Western Australia.

Major crime squad detectives are investigating the death of 34-year-old doctor DinendraAthukorala.

He was found injured at his home in Shenton Street, Geraldton on June 24 and died when he was unable to be resuscitated after being taken to hospital.

The 34-year-old woman, also believed to be a doctor, was charged with murder on Thursday night.

She was remanded in custody to appear in the Geraldton Magistrates Court on Friday.

The family of DrAthukorala, believed to be in Sri Lanka, has been notified and detectives and consul officials are offering the family assistance.

In a separate incident in Geraldton, police continue to investigate the death of a 51-year-old man.
About 6.50am on Thursday police were called to a home in Seventh Street, Wonthella where the body of the man was located.

Major crime squad detectives remain in the car park of the Geraldton Regional Hospital where a protected forensics area has been set up as part of the investigation.

Police spokeswoman Susan Usher said a number of people were assisting police with their inquiries.(WA Today)
